It was Match Day One for most of the Betway Premiership teams, and they were all looking to kick off their campaigns on a high note.

A total of six matches were played, involving 12 teams. The first batch of fixtures kicked off at 3 PM, with Chippa United hosting the reigning champions, Mamelodi Sundowns, in the Eastern Cape. The match ended in a surprising 1-1 draw, as Sundowns dropped points in their season opener, a result that shocked many fans.

Polokwane City and Magesi FC also shared the spoils in a goalless 0-0 draw, while AmaZulu managed a narrow 1-0 win over newcomers Orbit College. Elsewhere, Richards Bay suffered a 1-2 home defeat to Marumo Gallants.

In one of the day’s biggest upsets, Orlando Pirates were left stunned after a 0-1 loss to Sekhukhune United. Later in the evening, Siwelele FC secured a convincing 3-1 victory over Golden Arrows, with passionate Bloemfontein supporters turning up in numbers to back the newly purchased club.

The remaining teams will play on Sunday as TS Galaxy is hosting Durban City and Kaizer Chiefs will be in Western Cape against home team Stellenbosch in a sold-affair.
