It was an entertaining encounter at Dr Molomela Stadium on Tuesday evening, as Siwelele FC and Durban City FC played out a pulsating 2-2 draw in a match filled with momentum swings and decisive moments.
Coming off their recent Nedbank Cup triumph, Durban City made a notable change between the sticks, resting experienced goalkeeper Darren Keet and handing a start to Fredrick Asare. The adjustment, however, did little to slow their early intensity.
Durban City struck first in the 7th minute through in-form forward Jean Lubumba, who calmly found the back of the net to give the visitors an early advantage. The lead, however, was short-lived. Just six minutes later, Siwelele responded swiftly as Bohlale Ngwato capitalised on an opportunity to bring the hosts level in the 13th minute.
The match settled into a competitive rhythm, with both sides pushing for control. Siwelele grew into the game and were rewarded in the second half when Ghampani Lungu fired them into the lead in the 58th minute, sending the home crowd into celebration.
With time ticking away, Durban City showed resilience and determination. In the 76th minute, Jean Lubumba once again stepped up, completing his brace with a well-taken goal to restore parity and ultimately rescue a crucial point for his side.
The result sees both teams share the spoils after a hard-fought contest, with Durban City maintaining their fighting spirit while Siwelele will reflect on a lead that slipped away late in the game.
