At 84, legendary South African distance runner Johannes Mosehla of Limpopo is set to take on another historic challenge on the international stage.
Mosehla, who holds the record as the oldest finisher in Comrades Marathon history, is travelling to Germany to compete in the BMW Berlin Marathon on Sunday, 27 September 2026.
His remarkable running journey began in 1963, when he was just 21 years old. More than six decades later, Mosehla continues to redefine the limits of endurance and longevity in distance running.
He first set the record as the oldest Comrades finisher in 2023 at the age of 81, before breaking his own record again at 83 in 2025. In June 2026, he extended his remarkable achievement even further, completing the Comrades Marathon in an impressive 11:12:27.
Now, Mosehla heads to Berlin carrying the hopes and pride of Limpopo Province and South Africa, with another opportunity to etch his name into marathon history.
At 84, the journey continues. The goal remains the same: run, inspire and make history.
