The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has banned Malamulele Stadium from hosting Motsepe Foundation Championship fixtures for two weeks due to the pitch not meeting the league’s compliance manual.
The stadium is utilised by Motsepe Foundation Championship side Gomora United who secured a 2-1 win over Upington City on the weekend.
Gomora United are currently competing in the Motsepe foundation championship for the second consecutive season since earning promotion from the SAFA ABC Motsepe League.
The Alexandra-based outfit relocated to Malamulele Stadium, after deciding to relocate their home games from Gauteng to the Malamulele Stadium.
Gomora enjoyed unwavering support at Malamulele Stadium, as football lovers in that part of the Vhembe region have long been thirsty for professional football.
The club managed to retain their status in their maiden season in the Motsepe Foundation Championship after finishing 13th in the log standings.
Gomora United on the unavailibility of Malamulele Stadium
Gomora United team manager Ramakha Setenane revealed that the weekend’s fixture against Upington City was their final game at the facility after the PSL issued a communique to the club that the pitch does not meet the required PSL standards.
This is our last game at Malamulele, unfortunately. Not because we want to but based on the facility and challenges that the PSL just raised. And we need to respect our mother body as the PSL”

Setenane went on to reveal that the club will not leave the province as they will move their upcoming home games to the Old Peter Mokaba stadium when Malamulele Stadium is still under pitch rehabilitation.
One of the stadium is the Old Peter Mokaba stadium, I think they are very much sure that we might play our game [against Cape Town City] there although it is yet not finalised”
Collins Chabane Local municipality spokesperson Robert Mathye revealed to SportsZone areas of concerns that the PSL have raised that needs urgent attention to get the facility back fit to hosting Motsepe Foundation Championship matches.
We were told that the Stadium has some issues next to the southern poles. They said we should fix the grass, and it will take two weeks to be ready.” Mathye told this publication
Gomora United will host Cape Town City on Friday, 16 October 2026 at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium as they look to build up on their solid start to the season in the National First Division.
