The KwaZulu-Natal derby between AmaZulu FC and Golden Arrows delivered late drama at the iconic Moses Mabhida Stadium on Wednesday night, as the two sides settled for a 1-1 draw.

AmaZulu looked in control for large spells of the match after taking an early lead in the 16th minute. A well-delivered corner found defender Sandile Mthethwa, who rose highest to power home a header and give Usuthu the advantage.

The hosts maintained their composure throughout the game, managing phases well and limiting Arrows’ attacking threat. As the clock ticked down, it appeared AmaZulu would secure all three points in front of their home crowd.

However, Golden Arrows had the final say in dramatic fashion. Deep into stoppage time (90+4), Jerome Karalse delivered a crushing blow to AmaZulu, heading in a late equaliser to silence the home supporters and rescue a point for Abafana Bes’thende.

The result leaves both sides sharing the spoils in a fiercely contested derby, with AmaZulu left to rue missed opportunities and Arrows celebrating their resilience until the final whistle.

Elsewhere at the same time, Richards Bay FC played out a goalless draw against Polokwane City FC at the uMhlathuze Sports Complex, in a result that offered little movement in the standings.
