Bafana Bafana coach Pitso Mosimane has confirmed that Lebohang Maboe has been withdrawn from the squad after sustaining an ankle injury while playing for Kaizer Chiefs over the weekend.
Bafana Bafana team doctor Dr Tshepo Molobi confirmed that Maboe arrived in camp on Sunday evening with the injury and was subsequently ruled out after undergoing scans on Monday.
“He twisted his ankle while playing for Kaizer Chiefs and after undergoing a scan, he will be ruled out from the current camp and this FIFA window,” said Dr Molobi.
With Maboe unavailable for the upcoming fixtures, Mosimane has confirmed that a call-up letter has been sent to Orlando Pirates for Tshepang Moremi, who has been identified as his replacement.
South Africa begin their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying campaign against Guinea at Orlando Stadium on Saturday at 15h00.
