Polokwane City suffered their second defeat of the season after falling to a 1-0 defeat to AmaZulu on Saturday evening at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Extending their winless streak to six matches in the Betway Premiership.

AmaZulu broke the deadlock in the third minute from a set-piece situation following a positive start to the game.

Radebe played a delightful cross that was met by Thando Ngwenya’s towering header toward the near post to find the back of the net.

Polokwane City grew into the game as the halftime whistle approached and often looked to cause damage with direct crosses into the area.

Rise and Shine came agonisingly close to levelling matters in the 44th minute after a chaotic scramble inside the area as Tidimalo Molokwane struck the upright from the edge of the six-yard box before being cleared away.

There was little to separate the two sides during the second-half as AmaZulu sat back, soaking up the pressure to maintain their lead. Rise and Shine enjoyed more of the ball as AmaZulu’s attacking intensity dropped.

Usuthu showed defensive discipline at the back to keep Polokwane City at bay and see out a hard-fought 1-0 win away at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium.

What this result means for the league Standings

AmaZulu climbs up to third spot in the log standings, level on points with second-placed Orlando Pirates and four points off fourth-placed Kaizer Chiefs.

Meanwhile, Polokwane City remains outside the top eight as they are currently placed ninth in the Betway Premiership log standings after matchday seven.

Both teams head into the FIFA international break in contrasting form, with AmaZulu on a three-game winning streak and their talisman Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya in the form of his life, scoring in all seven league games for AmaZulu this season.

Meanwhile, Polokwane City are on a six-match winless run. Failing to keep a clean sheet in their last three league games.
